Butts named head of student agency

Claudia Butts has been appointed interim director of the RealWorld Integrated Marketing Communications Agency at Texas Christian University. The agency was established a year ago with a $350,000 grant. Its mission is to provide professional experience for students plus advertising, public relations and marketing services for nonprofit organizations in Tarrant County.

“We believe Claudia is an excellent selection for the position,” said Dr. Tommy Thomason, director of the Schieffer School of Journalism. “She has some 30 years of advertising experience focusing on creative design aspects and has worked closely with public relations campaigns.”

The current director, Dr. Jack Raskopf, is retiring after a 34-year teaching and administrative career at TCU.

Butts holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphics design from TCU. She has been a designer in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram promotion department. She has also served with the Harris Hospital Creative Services department. She taught communication graphics at Remington College in Fort Worth. And she operated her own agency, Claudia Butts Advertising.

Since the founding of the all-student RealWorld Agency she has been the assistant director and graphics design director. She also teaches an information graphics class in the Schieffer School of Journalism.
