Slater announces retirement

as dean of College of

Communication

 

Dr. Bill Slater, dean of the College of Communication, which includes the Schieffer School, has announced his retirement at the end of the 2007-2008 academic year.

 

After a sabbatical, Slater will join the faculty of the Schieffer School, where he holds the rank of professor of broadcast journalism. Provost Nowell Donovan is appointing a search committee to look for Slater's replacement as dean.

John Miller recuperating at home   Many alums have called to ask about John Miller, professional in residence in broadcast journalism.  John’s rehabbing at home after several weeks in Harris Hospital downtown.   John suffered a stroke in early September, losing his speech and the use of his right arm.  He has made a lot of progress, though, and is working with rehab therapists daily.  Right now, we’re still uncertain about when he will return.  His classes have been taken over by part-time broadcast journalism faculty member Michelle Buckalew, with lots of help from John’s friends in local TV news.   You can email John at j.miller@tcu.edu.
